TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Altek Corp. is showcasing its AI-powered vision modules for drone cameras and related components at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition through Saturday.
The expo, held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, features over 400 exhibitors from 14 countries. Key highlights include unmanned aerial and maritime systems, encrypted communications, and sustainable aviation fuel. The organizer is also hosting forums on space technology, communications, and satellite imagery security.
Altek's obstacle avoidance module, displayed at the event, features the company's self-developed image processing chip, the AL6100. Integrated into a thermal imaging camera for drones, the chip utilizes AI technology to enhance image clarity, per CNA.
The company noted that AL6100 has received orders from two US-based UAV manufacturers, one of which will use it in police drones. Shipments are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of next year.
Thermal imaging cameras for nighttime drone surveillance are typically expensive, Altek added. However, the company’s technology significantly reduces the hardware requirements for drone cameras, helping to lower overall manufacturing costs.
Altek is also displaying another of its vision processors for drone cameras, the AL8100. The chip processes images on the device, which eliminates the need to transmit data to a central platform and significantly reduces the system's computing load.
In addition, the company is showcasing a chip co-developed with Qualcomm, which serves as a central processor for drones, along with vision modules suitable for UAVs and robots. Company Chair Hsia Ru-wen (夏汝文) highlighted that Altek's solutions, from vision systems to processing chips, are integrated with AI-powered systems and information security.
Hsia added that Altek obtained the AS9100 Aerospace Quality Management System certification this year. With 30 years of experience in hardware and software design, the company aims to expand its international orders.
