TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Czech Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Pavel Fischer met KMT Legislator Wan Mei-ling (萬美玲) in Taipei on Wednesday, urging stronger ties between the two countries.
Fischer, joined by Czech Representative to Taiwan David Steinke, thanked Wan for her long-standing efforts to strengthen bilateral exchanges, per CNA. He praised her role as president of the Taiwan–Czech Parliamentary Friendship Association.
Wan thanked Czechia for its support for Taiwan in European politics and highlighted Fischer’s backing of Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
Fischer said his Taiwan visit includes talks with the defense, foreign, and economic ministries, as well as attending the Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition. Meeting Wan, he said, was a priority given her work on expanding direct flights and education exchanges.
He noted that Taiwan–Czech flights are nearly fully booked and fall short of demand, and said Czechia offers scholarships for Taiwanese students while calling for more sister-school agreements.
Wan pointed out that Taoyuan and Brno are already sister cities and voiced hope for expanded cooperation. Marking her sixth year as chair of the friendship association, she said bilateral ties now span technology, culture, and education.
