TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Pingtung County Government announced the completion of a pedestrian space improvement project on Kenting Street on Wednesday.
The NT$50 million (US$1.66 million) project was launched in December and spans 1.41 kilometers, from the Dajianshan parking lot on Provincial Highway 26 to the Howard Beach Resort, CNA reported.
Chang Hsiang-chieh (張翔傑), an official from the county’s public works department, said the project applied a people-centered design to reorganize lane layouts, add pedestrian spaces, improve traffic safety, and recreational experience.
Cheng Da-wei (程大維), deputy chief of the county’s police department traffic team, said that 12 temporary parking spaces were trialed along Kenting Street. The pavement features green strips with tri-color geometric patterns and prominent signage to address previous issues of disorderly parking, double-parking, and lane obstruction.
Temporary parking is allowed for cars and scooters during the day and is limited to 20 minutes at a time. From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., parking is prohibited to keep lanes clear for pedestrian use and maintain nighttime safety.
