TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Industrial Technology Research Institute recognized five leaders on Tuesday for their outstanding contributions to engineering and biomedicine.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) praised ITRI’s role as a bridge between industry, government, academia, and research. She commented that the institute drives innovation and strengthens Taiwan’s global competitiveness.
ITRI Chair Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠) highlighted the laureates’ diverse expertise, reflecting Taiwan’s strength in advanced manufacturing and innovation. He said the institute has been working with the government for 52 years, driving digital and AI transformation, per Liberty Times.
The laureates were:
- TSMC Executive VP and Co-COO Mi Yu-chieh (米玉傑)
- CTCI Group Chair Yu Chun-yan (余俊彥)
- China Medical University Chair Tsai Chang-hai (蔡長海)
- Former TSMC Senior VP Lo Wei-jen (羅唯仁)
- NTUH Healthcare System Director and NTU Pediatrics Professor Ni Yen-hsuan (倪衍玄)
The laureates shared their ideas on collaboration: Mi stressed bridging technology gaps to maintain Taiwan’s supply chain edge, while Yu noted CTCI’s semiconductor wastewater reclamation plant as a sustainable engineering milestone.
Innovation Week, running Monday-Friday at ITRI’s Hsinchu and Tainan campuses, features forums on smart healthcare, industrial transformation, robotics, drones, and IP and startups. A tech exhibition showcases solutions that translate innovation into practical applications.
Founded in 1973, ITRI has transformed Taiwan from labor-intensive industries to an innovation-driven economy. It has been dedicated to incubating startups and spinoffs, including well-known names like TSMC.
