TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek announced Tuesday it has tapped TSMC’s 2 nm process for its upcoming flagship system-on-a-chip.
MediaTek President Chen Kuan-chou (陳冠州) said adopting the advanced process demonstrates MediaTek’s ability to apply cutting-edge semiconductor technology to a wide range of innovative solutions, per CNA. He added that the company is committed to delivering both high performance and energy efficiency.
Chen explained that MediaTek’s long-standing partnership with TSMC ensures its flagship products can serve customers worldwide, from edge devices to the cloud. The collaboration underscores MediaTek’s strategy of pairing advanced design with leading foundry technology.
TSMC Senior Vice President Chang Hsiao-chiang (張曉強) described the 2 nm as a milestone ushering in the nanosheet era. He said the foundry is dedicated to refining its technology to provide customers with powerful computing capabilities.
Chang stressed that TSMC and MediaTek will continue working together to maximize performance and efficiency across applications from smartphones to data centers
MediaTek noted that it has collaborated with TSMC for years on mobile platforms, automotive, and data center chips. It said the milestone is a major step forward in balancing performance with low power consumption.
