TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail passengers who play videos or music without headphones may be denied boarding under stricter quiet-carriage rules taking effect later this month.
Taiwan High Speed Rail said Monday it is implementing “quiet travel” policies, promoted via staff reminders, seat-back cards, LED messages, and station TV screens, per CNA. Passengers are asked to keep phones on silent, use headphones for music and video, move to vestibules for calls, and speak softly inside carriages to avoid disturbing others.
Train staff will remind passengers who play music without headphones or speak too loudly. Those making calls may be asked to move to vestibules or switch to text messages depending on crowding, while persistent violators risk having tickets canceled and being escorted off the train.
The rule takes effect on Sept. 22, with a three-month intensive promotion campaign. THSR will also reduce the frequency of in-train announcements.
For infants, young children, or passengers with medical conditions affecting self-control, staff will provide assistance and ask fellow travelers for understanding.
