TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, Huang Hsiao-wen (黃筱雯), won gold at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, UK, on Sunday.
Huang competed in the women’s 54-kilogram finals that night, facing off against American fighter Yoseline Perez, per ETtoday. Both boxers pressed the action aggressively from the start, with Huang securing three 10s in the opening round.
She went on to edge the second round with fluid combinations and clean hits, though the scoring remained close. In the decisive third, Huang landed repeated punches and sealed the win with another three 10s.
Her path to the final included victories over Japan’s Korin Kokufu, Mongolia’s Yesugen Oyuntsetseg, and Mexico’s 19-year-old prospect Ariadna Jeanette Gil Alonso. In the semifinal, she used her height advantage and patience to dominate Paris Olympic bronze medalist Im Ae-ji of South Korea in a 5–0 shutout.

Huang is the first Taiwanese boxer to claim three golds at the World Boxing Championships, according to the Taipei Department of Sports. The department pledged continued support for her and other athletes.
The 28-year-old previously won gold medals at the 2019 and 2023 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships organized by the International Boxing Association. The association has since lost recognition from the International Olympic Committee, and this year’s event was the first held by the newly formed World Boxing.
