TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Mainland Affairs Council has condemned China after reports that PLA fighter jets harassed a Kinmen medevac plane.
RW News reported Tuesday that JH-7 and J-10 fighter jets made an unannounced close approach toward an Apex Aviation medevac plane on a June transfer mission from Taipei to Kinmen, per CNA. The PLA fighter jets reportedly flew alongside the aircraft at visual range for about five minutes in the airspace near Kinmen, per Liberty Times.
The council condemned the unannounced approach and demanded that Beijing “cease such irrational actions that undermine humanitarian relief and endanger flight safety.”
It added that because outlying islands have limited medical resources, the central and local governments established an aerial transfer system to improve emergency care. In Kinmen, from 2018 to 2024, 594 emergency medevac missions were carried out, averaging about 85 a year.
The council said that China’s growing military intimidation, frequent gray-zone incursions, and targeting of medevac planes “demonstrate not only a disregard for human life but also blatant defiance of universal values.”
