TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Chain Store Corp.’s 7-Eleven is showcasing its smart logistics system, self-checkout device, and immersive rice product experience zone at the SDG Asia Expo.
The event, themed “Charge Towards Change,” runs through Saturday at the Taipei World Trade Center. Featuring more than 1,000 booths, it highlights achievements in green technology, energy-efficient architecture, and sustainable living, with participants from government, business, medical institutions, and academia.
The company unveiled its automated logistics equipment for the first time. Visitors can experience the item-picking process of a logistics center by scanning a product barcode and placing the item on a platform, prompting the machine to automatically sort and dispatch it, per CNA.
The company has integrated pallets made from compressed leftover wood into its logistics centers, supported by a fleet of nearly 300 eco-friendly delivery vehicles, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 80 tonnes annually.
Also on display is a self-checkout device with a tablet. As of last year, 7-Eleven has opened seven unmanned stores nationwide, where customers scan a membership barcode to enter and cameras track the items they pick up. When leaving, the system calculates the price and automatically processes the payment online.
The convenience store’s immersive rice product experience zone allows visitors to see how its rice balls are made alongside a simulated rice field landscape. The company said that its fresh food packaging uses less plastic and incorporates alternative materials to support carbon reduction efforts.
Since 2021, President Chain Store Corp. has established departments focused on carbon reduction, plastic reduction, and sustainable development. The company added that it will continue promoting environmental protection initiatives across its more than 7,100 stores in Taiwan.
