TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A bipartisan Arizona House delegation met with DPP officials on Wednesday for political and economic talks.
The group arrived Monday for a three-day visit to meet Taiwan-based businesses, attend SEMICON Taiwan, and promote cooperation in AI and semiconductors.
Led by Tony Rivero, chair of the Arizona House International Trade Committee, the delegation held in-depth discussions with the ruling party on democratic development, cross-strait and regional issues, social and energy policies, and economic and high-tech cooperation between Taiwan and Arizona, per a DPP press release.
Chen Wen-hao (陳文昊), director of the party’s Department of International Affairs, said Taiwan and Arizona enjoy close relations and thanked the state legislature for long-term support of Taiwan. He said Taiwan is Arizona’s eighth-largest export market and fifth-largest source of imports. He added that TSMC’s US$165 billion (NT$4.99 trillion) investment in Arizona for semiconductor manufacturing and R&D facilities reflects close industrial ties and boosts global supply chain resilience.
On cross-strait relations, Chen said President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) advocates “peace through strength” and is committed to maintaining the status quo. He added that Taiwan is willing to engage with China based on “equality and dignity” to promote peaceful development.
The DPP said the visiting delegation observed Taiwan’s economic and industrial strengths and its commitment to freedom and democracy, and that the group looked forward to closer exchanges and cooperation.
