TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese business group ran a Times Square ad Tuesday urging the United Nations to allow Taiwan meaningful participation in the organization and related international bodies.
As the 80th UN General Assembly opened, Taiwan’s UN membership and its exclusion from related agencies again drew attention, per CNA. From the start of the session, a North American Taiwanese business group pooled funds to display a Times Square billboard drawing global attention to the issue.
The advertisement was organized by the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America. In addition to “Taiwan,” it featured words starting with “U” — Unlock, Unfold, Unveil, Unleash, and Unbound — evoking the UN initials.
The video displayed text such as “UN2025” and “AI” over circuit imagery, highlighting Taiwan’s role in advanced chip development. It also included slogans aligned with the General Assembly theme, such as “Better Together” and “Chip in with Taiwan.”
Attending the ad’s launch were Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York Lee Chih-chiang (李志強), Overseas Community Affairs Council Chair Hsu Chia-ching (徐佳青), and TCCNA Senior Advisor Eugenia Henry.
Hsu said she appreciated members of the international community stating that past interpretations of Resolution 2758 were incorrect. She stressed that Taiwan should now have meaningful participation in the UN and related international organizations.
