TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A woman surnamed Dong (董) has been indicted in Taipei for allegedly forging EasyCards with TPASS functions and using them in nearly 600 refund transactions worth more than NT$690,000 (US$21,000).
Prosecutors said Dong worked with two minors, who were referred to juvenile court, per CNA. The group bought chip data and blank IC cards online, then used Chinese-made NFC tools to clone EasyCards.
They repeatedly loaded each with NT$1,200 and exploited refund machines at Taipei Main Station and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital MRT station.
To disguise the illicit proceeds, they used the cards to purchase in-store game credits that were later resold online. EasyCard Co. uncovered the scheme after spotting abnormal refund patterns during backend checks and reported it to the authorities.
Dong has been charged with forgery, money laundering, and unlawful financial gain. Prosecutors also requested confiscation of the proceeds, noting the suspects initially confessed but later recanted or shifted blame, an aggravating factor for sentencing.
