TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s 10-2 win over Australia in U18 baseball on Monday in Okinawa, Japan, secured a spot in the tournament’s Super Round later this week, per CNA.
The top three finishers in Group A and Group B are scheduled to meet in a round-robin tournament, culminating in a championship match and a bronze medal match on Sunday.
Entering the game, both teams were 2-1, making the matchup critical for Super Round seeding. Taiwan started Wang I-hsiang (王奕翔), who delivered four scoreless innings and struck out four.
At the plate, Taiwan wasted no time, scoring five runs. The first three batters each singled, a walk to Jiang Ting-yi (江庭毅) put more runners on base, and Zseng Sheng-en (曾聖恩) doubled to drive in two more. Taiwan added another run in the second inning on walks, errors, and a wild pitch.

Lee Kai-qi (李楷棋) extended the lead in the third with a three-run triple, followed by a sacrifice fly by Pasula Takislinian to secure the 10th run. Australia narrowly avoided the 10-run “mercy rule” when reliever He Hua (何樺) allowed two unearned runs over two innings.
Lin Chun-hsi (林珺希) closed it out with a scoreless seventh, sealing the victory as Taiwan improved to 3-1.
Taiwan’s next opponent is Germany, which lost its previous game to Panama to fall to 2-2. Taiwan plays Germany on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
