TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Wei Chuan Dragons star infielder Lin Chih-sheng (林智勝) is set to play his final game on Sunday evening in front of a capacity crowd of 40,000 at the Taipei Dome.
Lin is scheduled to bat sixth and play first base against the TSG Hawks, capping a 21-year professional career. He played for multiple teams and is the only player in Taiwan’s professional league to hit 300 home runs, per CNA.
At the start of the season, Lin announced it would be his last, clearing the way for younger players. It is unclear if he will play the full game, as Dragons manager Ye Chun-chang (葉君璋) said before the matchup, “It depends on his condition. Today is his last game and I hope he performs well and leaves on a high note.”

With his final game approaching, Lin admitted he did not sleep well the previous evening. “I was thinking about my speech. I rehearsed it, but I also forgot a lot of it. Even without fans, my mind went blank, so I need to work harder today.”
The three-day series attracted more than 100,000 spectators, a testament to his popularity. However, Lin said the series is not about him but about the fans, adding that without their support it would be impossible for Taiwan’s baseball environment to improve.
The surge in attendance helped the league surpass 3 million spectators in a season for the first time. Lin attributed the milestone partly to Taiwan’s victory in the Premier12 but added, “Everyone worked so hard even before that — players, reporters, and every staff member — to make the baseball environment better.”

At the start of the series, Lin got close to the audience before the game, causing a stir. He joked that he was meeting with a few golfing buddies who had come up from Kaohsiung.
“They wanted to come down onto the field to take pictures with me. But I thought it would be a hassle, so it was easier if I just went over and took a few pictures with them,” he said.
