TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Life Insurance on Wednesday donated NT$3 million (US$97,000) for Chiayi County’s reconstruction following Typhoon Danas.
CTBC Financial Holdings Chief Investment Officer and Director Hsieh Chuang-kun (謝壯堃) met with Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) and presided over the donation, per CNA. Weng thanked the company for its contributions to Chiayi’s families.
Hsieh explained that Taiwan Life has promoted a micro-insurance program in Chiayi since 2015, assisting low-income families and disadvantaged youth. He said, to date, the program has helped 67,000 residents and the post-disaster donation honors the company’s mission to support local communities.
Chiayi County Social Affairs Bureau noted the donation will prioritize aid for disaster-affected households and home repairs. Officials said assessments will ensure resources meet the needs of towns and villages.
Typhoon Danas struck Taiwan in July, leaving two dead and hundreds injured. It was followed by torrential rains later that month, per TBVS.
