TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Railways Corporation started accepting reservations for the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend on Wednesday at midnight.
As of 10 a.m., 80,603 bookings covering 129,593 tickets were made, TRC said. Seats are still available on long-distance Tze-Chiang Limited Express trains from Taipei to Hualien and Taitung.
On Oct. 3, 4, and 6, extra train services will be added, Taiwan Railways said. These bookings will be open from midnight on Thursday and are limited to residents registered in Hualien and Taitung counties, as well as nationals whose national ID number begins with the letters "U" or "V", along with their spouses and first-degree relatives.
From Oct. 3-7, TRC will operate 107 additional trains of various types across its network. Reservations can be made through the TRC online system, mobile phone app, phone, and convenience store kiosks.
Uncollected tickets will be released back into the booking system at 9 a.m. on Friday
