TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army is set to receive nearly 25,000 new T112 rifles next year, along with upgraded ammunition.
According to the Ministry of National Defense’s budget report, the Army will receive 24,534 of the 86,000 domestically manufactured T112 rifles ordered for NT$8.1 billion (US$264 million), per Liberty Times.
Compared with the current T91 rifle, the T112 is more accurate and has a longer barrel life, providing significant advantages for individual soldiers in combat.
The Army has also allocated NT$892.8 million for 5.56 mm steel-core rifle rounds. The ammunition is confirmed to penetrate the Chinese military’s standard-issue body armor and is expected to enter mass production starting next year.
