TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The 10th Taiwanese and Hakka Literature Award is now accepting submissions until Oct. 31, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday.
The competition is open to literary works written in Taiwanese and Hakka, with divisions for students, teachers, and the general public. The ministry invited students from senior high school and above, teachers at all levels, and members of the public to participate. The prize money has been doubled this year, with the top award reaching NT$100,000 (US$3,264).
The MOE said it has been working to promote education in Taiwan’s languages by encouraging literary creation in local languages and scripts, showcasing the country’s linguistic diversity, and deepening cultural transmission.
Resources for Taiwanese and Hakka writing and romanization systems can be found on the MOE’s Language Resources website. More information about this year’s contest is available on the Department of Lifelong Education e-bulletin board.
