TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of 40 Taiwan Youth Ambassadors made a visit to the University of Guam last week to join a panel discussion on security in the Indo-Pacific.
Young ambassadors from Taiwan shared their views on the authoritarian threat that Taiwan faces and Taiwan’s relationship to Guam. The panel discussion was titled “Guam’s role in a free and safe Indo-Pacific” and was hosted by the Regional Center for Public Policy at the university’s School of Business and Public Administration, reported Pacific Daily News.
The round table was attended by Guam’s delegate to the US Congress James Moylan and the Speaker of Guam’s Legislature Frank Blas Jr. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also represented at the event by the deputy director of NGO International Affairs, Kang Chia-chi (康嘉棋).
Kang told those present that the youth ambassadors were on a mission to connect the people of Taiwan and Guam, and to build a lasting friendship.
During the panel event, the students shared information from Taiwan’s National Security Bureau and Ministry of Defense. The presentations informed students in Guam about China’s provocative behavior targeting Taiwan through the use military gray zone tactics, and information warfare online.
The visit by the delegation is a way to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, while providing the opportunity for important cultural exchanges. The ambassadors emphasized that because of US security architecture in the region, the futures of Guam and Taiwan are inextricably linked together, per PDN.
