TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s military plans to build new hangars for its F-16V fighter jets, according to the Ministry of National Defense’s 2026 budget plan.
The project calls for 24 hangars, taxiways, and supporting infrastructure at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung, per CNA. Estimated at NT$3.729 billion (US$121.89 million), construction is scheduled to finish in 2028.
Taiwan is set to complete delivery of 66 F-16Vs next year. Assigned to the Air Force’s 7th Wing at Chihhang, the aircraft are responsible for defending Taiwan’s southeastern airspace.
The Air Force Command said the new facilities are designed to meet the demands of maintenance, training, and support personnel as the fleet expands.
Separately, the Air Force has budgeted NT$3.564 billion for new C-130 hangar facilities at Pingtung Air Force Base, including four dual-bay shelters.
