TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei’s Bihu and Guting Elementary Schools won the second World Cup Youth Beach Tchoukball Championship in Thailand’s Pattaya on Friday.
Taiwan defeated Thailand and Hong Kong in three consecutive matches to take the title. It was Bihu Elementary’s first international competition in its 30-year history, per Liberty Times.
“This victory is the glory the children earned through sweat, perseverance, and belief,” said coach Lin Cheng-chieh (林正傑), a former player. Created in Switzerland, the non-contact sport emphasizes speed and spatial awareness, per UDN.
In the opening match against Thailand B, captain Wu Yung-yueh (吳永約) scored crucial points while securing the ball on defense. His performance helped Taiwan maintain rhythm and win its first game.
Against Thailand A, attacker Weng Wei-chu (翁暐筑) broke a tight first-quarter stalemate with decisive plays. Taiwan kept up the pressure to claim a second victory.
In the final against Hong Kong, Wu scored consecutive edge shots while defender Yu Man-hsin intercepted multiple attacks. Lin praised the teamwork, adding that every player contributed to winning the championship.
“Standing on the world stage feels like a dream,” Wu said, reflecting on the victory. “We practiced tirelessly and accomplished this together.”
