TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-long (楊金龍) is once again rated among the A-rated bankers in a survey by Global Finance magazine following an absence of one year, reports said Thursday.
The publication rated about 100 central bankers according to their performance in areas including: currency stability, interest rate management, inflation control, economic growth goals, and political independence.
Yang’s return to the A- level revealed market approval of Taiwan’s financial stability and monetary policies, per UDN. After taking office in 2018, Yang was selected for the A level for four years, before slipping to B+ last year.
Only three bankers were awarded the top accolade, A+. They were Jerome Powell of the US, Christian Thomsen of Denmark, and Nguyen Thi Hong of Vietnam. Nine bankers received an A, including the central bankers of Indonesia and of Taiwan ally Paraguay.
The 14 bankers at Yang’s A- level included President Christine Lagarde of the European Central Bank, and top Asian bankers from the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, and Mongolia.
