TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved eight major investment projects, led by TSMC’s NT$305 billion (US$10 billion) injection into its British Virgin Islands subsidiary.
The investment, directed to TSMC Global Ltd., is aimed at lowering foreign exchange hedging costs by redeploying the company’s foreign currency reserves, per CNA. The move brings TSMC’s total investment in the offshore unit to NT$1.16 trillion.
Largan Precision also secured approval to add NT$7.33 billion to its Samoa-based subsidiary Astro International Limited, likewise to counter exchange rate risks and reduce hedging costs.
Other cases included Wiwynn Corporation’s NT$15.27 billion injection into its US unit, Wiwynn International Corporation, to support operations at its El Paso, Texas, plant focused on high-density servers and storage devices.
Nuvoton Technology received approval for a NT$3.15 billion investment into its Japan subsidiary for IC design, development, and production. Meanwhile, Hung Yuan International Investment Co. acquired Sharp Fukuyama Laser Co., Ltd. in Japan for NT$3.3 billion.
Foreign investors were also active in Taiwan, with UK-based Stonepeak Formosa 4-3 Holdings injecting NT$6.24 billion into Haiseng International Investment Co. to fund early-stage development of its offshore wind project. Germany’s Carl Zeiss Vision International GmbH purchased Brighten Optix for NT$5.44 billion.
In China, Chang Chun Plastics Co. converted approximately NT$680 million in debt claims into equity in its Chengdu chemical subsidiary through its China-based investment arm.
