TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Seven volunteers from Taipei City Government’s Department for Youth will conclude a 10-day cultural exchange on Thursday at Camachile Elementary School in Floridablanca Pampanga, Philippines.
The school primarily serves children from the indigenous Aeta community. According to the Taipei City Government’s Department for Youth, the Taipei volunteers spent four months preparing for the program.
Upon arrival, they were welcomed with a traditional Aeta dance performance. Teachers also introduced local customs to help the volunteers better understand Aeta culture.
The Taipei group hosted classes on Taiwanese culture, including writing spring couplets, basic Mandarin greetings, and making paper sky lanterns. For many students, it was their first exposure to Mandarin and Taiwanese traditions.
Volunteers also led activities such as singing, dancing, and school-wide games that encouraged teamwork and participation.
In addition, they joined a gardening project with local teachers, planting eggplant seedlings that will later be used in school lunches.
The exchange highlighted collaboration in language, culture, and sustainability, giving both students and volunteers opportunities for shared learning.
