TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Synera Renewable Energy held a press conference on Monday to announce the signing of a contract with Century Iron and Steel to provide wind turbine jackets and pilings for the Formosa 6 offshore wind farm project.
The contract represents a significant step forward as the two companies prepare to construct Taiwan's largest single offshore wind farm. Synera has already delivered offshore wind farm projects, Formosa 1-4, and is now completing construction plans for Formosa 5-6.
Formosa 6 is SRE's first project in central Taiwan, located off the coast of Changhua County. When completed, it will provide electricity to 860,000 households, per CNA. The project was awarded as part of the second round of auctions for Phase 3 zonal development of offshore wind in 2024, with SRE permitted to develop 800 MW capacity.

According to SRE, the contract with Century Iron and Steel involves 57 wind turbine jackets and 180 underwater foundation piles to support the project's scheduled grid connection in 2029.
SRE Chair Lucas Lin (林雍堯) said clean, renewable energy has become an indispensable part of energy discussions by countries around the world. As a locally based offshore wind developer, he said his company not only invests in wind farm development and construction but also deepens collaboration with the local supply chain.
SRE Chief Projects Manager Sahand Holm said he was pleased to expand his alliance with Century Iron and Steel on yet another project. He said this demonstrates SRE's long-term support of local enterprises.
Century Iron and Steel Chair Lai Wen-hsiang (賴文祥) expressed his gratitude for the continued partnership, which will enable continuous production until 2028. Lai pledged to deliver quality work on schedule with the highest safety standards.
