TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — After the failure of the Great Recall campaign on Saturday, the Democratic Progressive Party Legislative Caucus signaled changes in leadership with two high-profile resignations.
Despite calls for caucus leader Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘) to step aside, he said he intends to remain in his post. Legislative Caucus Director Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤) and Secretary-General Chen Pei-yu (陳培瑜) both announced they would resign from their roles, per UDN.
Ker thanked Wu and Chen for their leadership and said he would retain them as advisors, raising uncertainty about how caucus leadership will be reshuffled, per UDN.
In a social media post, Wu said the party must reflect on public opinion. She called for the caucus to reorganize, expand participation, and strengthen itself, adding that DPP lawmakers should serve as “guardians of parliamentary democracy.”
The resignations follow a series of departures from the Lai administration and within the DPP. On Saturday, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) signaled a Cabinet reshuffle but said Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) would remain as premier.
