TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Digital Minister Huang Yen-nun (黃彥男) has tendered his resignation to return to his academic career, reports said Friday.
Since an attempt to recall 24 opposition lawmakers faltered on July 26, media reports have hinted at the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle. Huang’s departure from government is reportedly the first change to be confirmed, per the Liberty Times.
The information technology expert joined the government in May 2024, but since Academia Sinica only loaned him out to the Cabinet until Aug. 31, he tendered his resignation to Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰). Huang is expected to return to research work at the academic institution, but there was no word about the identity of his successor.
The digital ministry praised him for strengthening digital resilience, developing Taiwan’s digital economy, and boosting the fight against fraud. He also oversaw the passage of the Cyber Security Management Act and the speeding up of training for government cybersecurity talent.
Under Huang’s watch, Taiwan retained its rank as the ninth most competitive digital economy in the world according to Switzerland’s Institute for Management Development.
