TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck southwestern Taiwan on Thursday at 4:37 p.m., the Central Weather Administration reported.
The epicenter was 36.3 km southeast of Chiayi County Hall with a focal depth of 10.4 km, per CNA.
The quake’s highest intensity reached level 4 in Chiayi County, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Chiayi and Yunlin County experienced level 3.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
