TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China is holding a military parade in Beijing on Sept. 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of World War II.
The occasion is an opportunity for China to showcase its most advanced weapons, including fighter jets, tanks, and anti-drone equipment. Foreign military analysts and officials also expect to see hypersonic missiles on display, Reuters reported.
The weapons “will fully demonstrate our military's robust ability to adapt to technological advancements, evolving warfare patterns, and win future wars," Reuters quoted Wu Zeke (吳澤棵), deputy director of the military parade, as saying.
Hypersonic missiles, such as the DF-ZF, will likely be deployed in an invasion of Taiwan to eliminate critical infrastructure and air-defense systems.
To counter this threat, Taiwan has an extended-range Strong Bow IIA to intercept missiles up to 100 kilometers. It also designed the Strong Bow IIB, a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a maximum range of 1,000 km.
The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology has mass-produced the Ching Tien supersonic cruise missile, with a reported range of 1,200 to 2,000 km. NCSIST is also upgrading the Ching Tien to a hypersonic cruise missile, which will have a range beyond 2,000 km.
