TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Tuesday that Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding on border information sharing with Japan in December.
MOFA spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) said at a press conference that the ministry welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation on entry and exit management, which further strengthens Taiwan–Japan ties. She noted the two sides share close relations and frequent exchanges, with more than 7.32 million visits recorded last year.
Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun first reported on the agreement, citing sources familiar with the matter. The deal enables both sides to share information on foreign nationals seeking entry into Japan from Taiwan.
