TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn on Tuesday signed an agreement with Taiwan Nobel Medical Technology to develop AI-driven eye health solutions, combining smart imaging with wearable display research.
Chang Chih-hsiung (姜志雄), head of Foxconn’s B business group, said the company will merge its AI capabilities with Nobel’s optometry expertise to create smart vision solutions, per CNA. He added that the goal is to integrate AI and telemedicine into both clinics and daily care.
The initiative also aligns with President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) push for sovereign AI, Chang said, adding that Taiwan is well positioned as a hub for digital health and AI. Foxconn also plans to expand into medical robotics as part of its long-term strategy.
The collaboration’s first step is an AI agent-powered system for fundus imaging analysis. The system can autonomously detect retinal lesions, assess risks, and provide treatment suggestions. It will be embedded in Nobel’s CoDoctor Eye handheld device and linked to telemedicine platforms.
Foxconn said the integration will enable real-time screening in rural areas, with AI-assisted interpretation and referrals for follow-up treatment when necessary. The system will be rolled out across Nobel’s 25 clinics nationwide to establish a smart vision care network.
