TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military is reportedly preparing to mass-produce an advanced version of the Sky Sword II air-to-air missile.
The Ministry of National Defense is drafting a special statute to allocate funding for arms procurement, including the purchase of more than 100 Sky Sword II-C missiles, according to Liberty Times. The program will cost about NT$10 billion (US$332 million). The weapons are expected to enhance the Indigenous Defense Fighter’s beyond-visual-range combat capability.
The Sky Sword II has a range of 60 kilometers and can reach Mach 4, enabling it to intercept enemy fighter jets more effectively.
The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology has also developed the Sky Sword III, which has a range of up to 120 kilometers.
