TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kuma Academy held a tourniquet training event on Sunday to teach the public basic medical skills.
Outside MRT Yuanshan Station, instructors demonstrated how to apply a tourniquet within 30 seconds, CNA reported. Arterial bleeding can cause total blood loss in about one minute, making rapid action critical.
Kuma Academy Chair Liu Wen (劉文) said the event aimed to ensure everyone has the basic ability to save themselves and others. She expressed hope it would inspire more people to learn the skills, so victims could receive aid before reaching a hospital.
Liu added that international education campaigns and multiple clinical studies show tourniquets achieve a 78%–100% success rate when properly applied, reducing the risk of death and complications.
