TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of Japanese lawmakers from the Youth Division of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party arrived in Taiwan on Sunday.
Led by Nakasone Yasutaka, the group includes more than 70 LDP members, including four sitting members of the Japanese Diet. They will remain in Taiwan until Aug. 20 and are scheduled to meet top officials to discuss Taiwan-Japan relations and issues of mutual concern, per a press release.
Nakasone and the legislators will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴). Other meetings are scheduled with Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), and other senior government officials.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the delegation, saying the visit demonstrates Japan’s strong commitment to maintaining close ties with Taiwan.
The LDP Youth Division has long served as a bridge between Taiwan and Japan, fostering communication and exchange among young leaders. The group has organized annual visits to Taiwan since 1967 to promote dialogue on regional issues.
Nakasone also led a delegation to Taiwan earlier this year and has publicly called for greater cooperation between the two countries in areas such as maritime security and healthcare.
