TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday welcomed a six-member multiparty delegation from Romania.
Senator Cristian Ghinea is heading the group of representatives and senators on its August 16-21 visit. He also serves as the Romanian co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, the ministry said in a statement.
During the trip, the delegation will visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the National Development Council, the Financial Supervisory Commission, and the Ministry of Agriculture. The program also includes meetings with trade organizations and a tour of the Hsinchu Science Park and of prominent corporations. The Romanian legislators expressed interest in discussing cyber security and the fight against fake news and outside interference with NGOs and academics.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Ghinea’s experience as a former member of the European Parliament and of the Romanian government. He had also called for the strengthening of relations between Bucharest and Taipei. The ministry said both countries were situated on the front line of democracy against the expansion of authoritarianism.
