TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) welcomed the Tuvalu Minister for Public Utilities and Environment Ampelosa Manoa Tehulu on Saturday, pledging to defend peace in the Pacific.
The foreign ministry said Wu extended Taiwan’s welcome to Tehulu and his delegation, underscoring the government’s commitment to deepening ties with the Pacific ally, per CNA.
Tehulu thanked Taiwan for its long-term support of infrastructure development in Tuvalu, noting that joint projects have played an important role in improving national development. He said he looked forward to expanding cooperation regarding climate change.
Wu said that Taiwan and Tuvalu, as island nations, share common challenges and have achieved visible results through collaboration. He praised Tuvalu’s consistent support for Taiwan on the international stage.
Wu reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to working alongside Tuvalu to safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Pacific region. He said Taipei would continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Funafuti to advance mutual interests.
Tuvalu is one of 12 nations that maintain formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
