TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Police squadron chief Chen Chun-ming (陳俊銘) was released on NT$120,000 (US$4,000) bail Friday after being accused of corruption linked to his previous role in the city’s criminal investigation division.
Prosecutors allege that Chen, a detective chief at Taipei’s Wenshan First Precinct, misappropriated public funds while serving as captain of the Eighth Team, per CNA. He was transferred to his current post in August last year, per UDN.
Taipei District Prosecutors Office ordered searches of Chen’s home and office on Thursday, per Liberty Times. Chen was taken in for questioning and later handed over to prosecutors.
Following an interrogation, prosecutors said Chen was suspected of breaking the Anti-Corruption Act by using his position to fraudulently obtain property. They cited the seriousness of the charges in setting the bail on Friday.
Wenshan First Precinct said it investigates all cases of officer misconduct and pledged to handle the matter according to the law and without leniency. The precinct stressed its policy of “police discipline handled by police” to ensure fairness and transparency.
Officials said there would be no tolerance for wrongdoing, concealment, or favoritism in the case, emphasizing the need to protect the police department’s integrity and public trust.
