TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tunghai University is riding the AI boom with new courses and expanded tech facilities, reaching full enrollment across all admission channels for the first time in its 70-year history.
The Taichung-based university said in a press release it is integrating AI, sustainability, and humanities into its curriculum, launching initiatives such as a new AI technology building and joint programs with international companies. It has also partnered with Nvidia to create an AI university and developed a robotics education platform, per CNA.
Tunghai University President Chang Kuo-en (張國恩) said the school is deepening cooperation with institutions such as Georgia Tech in the US and Assumption University in Thailand, while boosting ties with industry, revitalizing campus assets, and restructuring academic departments.
The AI center was made possible by donations from alumni, including NT$10 million (US$334,000) in servers from Inventec founder Lee Shih-chin (李詩欽), an AI PC classroom funded by US-based alumnus Lai Cheng-chiu (賴正秋), and dormitory upgrades supported by Fubon Group Chair Tsai Ming-chung (蔡明忠).
Alumni groups also rallied to raise over NT$14 million in one week for AI teaching facilities. Nearly all 40 departments reached full capacity, while master’s and doctoral programs hit record numbers.
Marking the school’s 70th anniversary, Chang said Tunghai aims to become a century-old institution with renewed vitality and global competitiveness.
