TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man surnamed Chang (張) from Changhua County’s Hemei Township accidentally placed a NT$200,000 (US$6,680) check in a cardboard box with waste paper and gave it to a recycling truck on Tuesday evening.

The next morning, he realized the mistake and called the township’s sanitation team for help. After searching the recycling yard for more than 10 minutes, the team successfully located the check and returned it to Chang, per CNA.

Yeh Mu-shu (葉木樹), head of Hemei Township Office’s sanitation team, told reporters Wednesday the team tracked down the vehicle that had collected waste from Chang’s home and identified the bag containing his cardboard box.

Ten sanitation workers joined the search. Upon learning the check had been recovered, Chang thanked the team and expressed his gratitude for their efforts.
