TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corp. plans to build northern Taiwan’s largest drone hub at its Shinkong InnovHub in Taoyuan, with facilities for manufacturing, R&D, test flights, and pilot certification.
In addition to producing commercial and military-grade drones, the facility will design drone components and materials, aiming to create a fully integrated supply chain, CNA reported.
Shinkong InnovHub CEO Chen Jung-kun (陳榮坤) said the new facility will have greater mass-production capacity than the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R&D Center in Chiayi. Supported by the county government, the Chiayi center hosts 52 companies and institutions focused on UAV technologies and applications integrating AI, machine learning, and big data analytics. Chen said both facilities will play key roles in advancing Taiwan’s drone sector.
The Taoyuan hub will also feature a dedicated zone for extreme weather flight testing and cybersecurity certification. Chen added the company will leverage its core technologies, including engineering plastics and 3D printing, to support UAV R&D.
Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Chair Eric Wu (吳東昇) said the company plans to set up a venture capital firm to fund drone-related startups entering the hub. He added the facility will be open for industry applications.
The Shinkong InnovHub will be developed in two phases. The first, with an investment of NT$5.6 billion (US$174 million), is set to begin operations in May 2027. The second phase is scheduled for completion in May 2030.
