TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Foreign Service career member Karin Lang has been appointed deputy director of the American Institute in Taiwan, the US representative office announced Tuesday.
She assumed office Friday, serving as deputy to envoy Raymond Greene, who began his post in Taipei on July 9, 2024. Like Greene, Lang previously served at AIT and speaks Mandarin.
Over a diplomatic career spanning more than 30 years, she has held economic and consular assignments in Guangzhou, Bangkok, Mexico City, and Havana. Her most recent position was coordinator for Cuban affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
At the US Embassy in Tokyo, Lang served as consul general and minister-counselor for consular affairs. In Washington, her roles included director of the Office of Policy Coordination and Public Affairs in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and multiple policy positions in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
