TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan on Monday welcomed a joint statement by Australia and New Zealand calling for peace in the Taiwan Strait.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the strait and urged greater dialogue to resolve cross-strait issues peacefully. They also opposed any unilateral changes to the status quo.
The leaders expressed concern over “dangerous and provocative behavior” in the South China Sea and reiterated support for the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which they described as “essential to peace and stability.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Taiwan will continue to promote “comprehensive diplomacy” and work with like-minded partners to advance democracy, peace, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
