TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School won the overall championship on Sunday at the 2025 World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) competition in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The band performed four pieces — “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla, “Blue Shades” by Frank Ticheli, “City of Stars” by Justin Hurwitz, and “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Márquez — combining precise marching with creative flag choreography, per CNA.
Judges praised the performance as the result of years of dedication and practice. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) sent their congratulations through Taiwan’s representative office in Indonesia.
The win fulfills Lai’s goal of creating more opportunities for Taiwan youth to compete internationally and brings greater global recognition for Taiwan.
The WAMSB hosts annual international competitions, with participating countries taking turns as host. Considered the highest level of high school marching band competition, the event adds to Jianguo High School’s record of strong performances in international contests over its 42-year history.
