TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration said Sunday it may issue a sea warning for Tropical Storm Podul as early as Tuesday, with a land warning possible later that afternoon or evening.
CWA meteorologist Lin Ding-yi (林定宜) said the storm is forecast to be closest to Taiwan on Aug. 13 and 14, per CNA.
As of 8 a.m. Sunday, Podul’s center was northwest of Guam at 21.4°N, 138.5°E, moving west at 19 kilometers per hour, Lin said. Maximum sustained winds near the center reached 30 meters per second.
Lin said the storm’s path will depend on changes in the Pacific high-pressure system starting Monday. If the high weakens, Podul is likely to track west-northwest near the Ryukyu Islands; otherwise, it will move directly west and intensify.
