TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The military police plan to procure three M-ACE anti-drone systems from the US for the defense of Taipei, reports said Friday.
The plan to acquire the weapons is the latest in a long line of measures designed to upgrade defenses around the capital, the Liberty Times reported. Marines have stationed troops in Taipei, while soldiers are equipped with handheld Stinger missiles.
However, the response capabilities against drone attacks has been deemed too weak. As a result, the military police command intends to buy three Mobile – Acquisition, Cueing and Effector anti-drone systems from defense contractor Northrop Grumman.
The aim is to improve defense capabilities near the Presidential Office Building, according to military sources. The M-ACE system can detect, identify, track, and deal with small drones. The equipment can be mounted on vehicles and integrated with hundreds of sensors and cameras.
