TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Thursday reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to aiding Ukraine’s reconstruction.
During talks with Ukrainian lawmaker Mykola Kniazhytskyi, Lai said Taiwan has stood with Ukraine, providing humanitarian aid through government funding and private donations, according to the Presidential Office.
He noted that Taiwan has also partnered with like-minded countries such as the Czech Republic and Poland to provide Ukraine with assistance.
Kniazhytskyi described his meeting with Lai as a historic moment, affirming Taiwan’s commitment to relations with Ukraine. The two countries are defending democracy against authoritarianism to ensure national identity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, he said.
China is attempting to suppress Taiwan’s free and human rights–respecting society, Kniazhytskyi said. “Any harm or aggression against Taiwan’s freedom is unacceptable.”
The lawmaker said his visit demonstrates a shared vision for a future democratic world. He expressed confidence that deeper exchanges between Taiwan and Ukraine would lead to a better and more constructive future.
Kniazhytskyi arrived in Taiwan on Monday to attend the Ketagalan Forum and explore opportunities to bolster Taiwan-Ukraine economic and trade cooperation.
