TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck east of Taiwan Thursday at 3:45 p.m., the Central Weather Administration said.
The quake's epicenter was located 128.9 kilometers east-southeast of Yilan County Hall, at a focal depth of 88.1 km under the Pacific Ocean.
The quake’s highest intensity reached level 3 in Yilan, Hualien, Nantou, Taichung, and Taitung. Level 2 was recorded from New Taipei in the north to Chiayi City in the south.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
