TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei 101 said Wednesday it will increase production of its signature mooncake gift boxes by 20% this year, targeting 15,000 units ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The shopping mall’s in-house gift line, which generated over NT$100 million (US$3.35 million) in sales last year, continues to grow thanks to strong local demand and a rebound in tourism, per CNA. In the first half of this year, Taipei 101 posted a 6.52% rise in revenue, with food, apparel, jewelry, and luxury goods performing well.
Fang Chun-chih (方君之), COO of Taipei 101 Mall, said the gift shop launches more than 100 new items annually, emphasizing original designs and souvenirs that appeal to both domestic and international visitors, per UDN.
About half of all gift purchases are made by local customers. European and North American tourists tend to favor high-end goods such as puzzles and mugs, while Japanese visitors are more likely to purchase food items such as pineapple cakes and mints.
The mall’s top-selling item remains the “Taipei 101 Gachapon,” which sells over 10,000 capsules per month, followed by commemorative keychains at 5,000 units monthly. For mooncakes, Taipei 101 will debut two new gift box designs this year, following a sellout of 12,000 boxes last year.
To attract buyers, the mall is offering a 15% discount on mooncake gift box pre-orders placed before Sept. 10, with custom foil-stamped labels available for corporate clients. Despite broader economic challenges, Taipei 101 aims to grow annual revenue to NT$25 billion, up from last year’s NT$23.7 billion.
