TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan and the US have agreed to continue combating illegal fishing activities together.
Fisheries Agency Director-General Wang Mao-cheng (王茂城) led a delegation to meet with counterparts from the US Department of State and Coast Guard from July 28 to 29, according to the Fisheries Agency.
The two sides exchanged views on renewing the MOU on Fisheries and Aquaculture Cooperation and agreed to continue dialogue and collaborate on mutual concerns.
Talks also covered the US Maritime Security and Fisheries Enforcement Act and potential areas for interagency cooperation under its framework. Both parties agreed to establish a liaison mechanism to explore cooperation in high seas enforcement, port state measures, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building.
“Regular bilateral consultations help solidify the cooperative relationship and jointly promote sustainable use of fisheries resources,” the Fisheries Agency said.
