TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology recently signed an MOU with US defense technology company Anduril.
The agreement focuses on cooperation on Lattice, an open AI-enabled command and control decision-making platform developed by Anduril, and unmanned vehicles, according to Liberty Times. This presents a significant opportunity for Taiwan to collaborate with global defense startups, which is expected to have a substantial benefit for its domestic drone industry.
The source said that introducing new technology is only the first step — the real challenge lies in whether the Ministry of National Defense’s Defense Innovation Office truly becomes a catalyst for innovation. By allowing institutional reforms to keep pace with technological advances, Taiwan’s vision of AI deterrence can be realized, they said.
The source said bolstering information technology, networks, and artificial intelligence would enhance Taiwan’s asymmetric warfare capabilities.
The deal comes as Anduril founder Palmer Luckey is set to visit the country next month to deliver a speech on technology and Taiwan's defense.
In April, Anduril unveiled its unmanned fighter jet, Fury. The fighter jet is designed to work alongside a manned aircraft.
